ROME, GA - Scott Kingery broke a scoreless tie with a 3-run home run in the top of the 11th and Kyle Martin added another as Lakewood scored the game's four runs in the final inning of their 4-0, 11 inning win on Monday at Rome.
The BlueClaws (15-10/48-45) head home after a 5-2 road trip, winners of nine of their last 12 games and they stay within three games of first place West Virginia. Lakewood took three of four from Rome (11-13/42-52) in their only series this year.
Kingery had tried to drive in a run via a safety squeeze, fouling off two pitches before his home run, his second pro home run. Martin's home run, which followed, was also his second pro home run and the first instance of back-to-back home runs by BlueClaws this year.
In the ninth inning, Calvin Rayburn walked the leadoff batter Braxton Davidson. Pinch-runner Connor Oliver got to third with one out before Rayburn came from 3-0 down to strike out Wigberto Navarez and then struck out Erison Mendez to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 10th, Jiandido Tromp threw Joseph Daris out at the plate, with Daris tagging on a fly ball by Jordan Edgerton.
Lakewood starter Tyler Viza threw seven scoreless innings, the seventh time he's thrown seven innings in a game this year, but left in a scoreless game.
Rome starter Touki Toussiant threw six scoreless and hitless innings while striking out a career high eight hitters.
Cord Sandberg extended his hitting streak to nine and Martin to 11 in the BlueClaws victory.
The BlueClaws return home and open a three-game series with first-place West Virginia on Wednesday morning. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (5-5) starts the opener for Lakewood against RHP Colten Brewer (2-7, 5.29).
