RiverDogs - Shorebirds Game to be Televised Live on MyTV Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC - The RiverDogs want you to attend the Friday, July 24th South Atlantic League game at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park between Charleston and Delmarva as it will serve as a night of celebration for Charleston's long-time mayor Joe Riley. However, if you can't make it to the game, you can catch it live on television.

The RiverDogs - Shorebirds game, with the first pitch slated for 7:05 pm, features the Yankees and Orioles affiliates. The July 24th contest will serve as the RiverDogs' sendoff for Mayor Riley as his concludes the final year of his 10-term, 40-year tenure. Other promotions on the evening's schedule include ISHPI Red Shirt Friday, a commemorative Joe Riley figurine for the first 1,000 and Home Telecom Friday Fireworks.

"We're eager to have the opportunity to put RiverDogs baseball on MyTV Charleston throughout the Lowcountry," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "It will be great to bring the game into the homes of those that aren't able to attend or haven't seen a RiverDogs game in a long time."

The game will be shown locally in the Charleston area on MyTV Charleston, Channel 36, with coverage beginning at 7 pm.

"We are excited to broadcast a Charleston RiverDogs game," said MyTV Charleston General Manager Mary Margaret Nelms. "With this partnership we can continue to expand our local sports coverage in our community."

Handling the play-by-play duties for the broadcast will be "Voice of the RiverDogs" Dan Acheson, while Summerville native and former Pittsburgh Pirate Steven Jackson will add color commentary. Ashley White is scheduled to serve as the sideline reporter.

With Acheson moving to the television broadcast booth for this game, RiverDogs' assistant director of media relations Steve Goldberg will handle the radio broadcast, which airs on WTMA 1250 AM.

A 2010 graduate of Emerson College of Boston with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in marketing, public relations and advertising, Acheson is in his first year with the RiverDogs having come to Charleston from the Arizona Fall League. Prior to his stint in Arizona, Acheson worked for the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs as the assistant director of broadcasting and media relations in 2014. He also enjoyed stints at the radio broadcaster and media/public relations manager for the Lakewood BlueClaws (NJ), Portland Sea Dogs and the Daytona (FL) Cubs.

After pitching for Summerville High, Jackson played at Clemson for four seasons (2001-04) and put together a record of 19-8. His professional career began in the Arizona Diamondbacks' system after he was a 10th round pick by them in 2004. He spent three seasons in their minor league program before being traded to the New York Yankees in January 2007 as part of the Randy Johnson trade. In 2009, Jackson was called to the majors for the first time by the Yankees but did not get into a game. He was then designated for assignment and was selected off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates where he made his major league debut on June 1 against the New York Mets. During his time in the majors, Jackson pitched in 54.1 innings during 51 appearances with a 2-4 record and a 4.31 ERA. In 2013, he was selected for induction into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame.

Goldberg is in his first season in professional baseball as the media relations and broadcasting assistant for the Charleston RiverDogs while completing his sport management and journalism degree from the University of Missouri. Goldberg was the voice of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox team that won the 2014 Cape Cod Baseball League championship. He also broadcasted Mizzou athletics for four years on KCOU-FM and Mizzou Network, highlighted by calling Missouri's appearances in the 2014 Cotton Bowl Classic and the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
