Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats concluded a seven-game homestead by sweeping a doubleheader from the Charleston RiverDogs Monday night. The Gnats won the opener, the completion of Sunday's suspended game, 4-1, and the nightcap 2-1 in seven innings in front of 3,010 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium.
The Gnats (10-14/49-45) came from behind to win game one 4-1 with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Down 1-0, Savannah loaded the bases with an error, a walk and a bunt single. Then, Tyler Moore, Patrick Biondi, Luis Guillorme and Wuilmer Becerra all rolled singles toward third base to bring home four runs.
In game two, the Gnats scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Guillorme drew a bases-loaded walk.
Charleston (9-16/43-52) scored their only run in game two on a throwing error by starter Martires Arias. Arias allowed just one unearned run in his five innings of work to earn his fourth win of 2015.
Gnats' relievers Christian Montgomery, Jimmy Duff, Alberto Baldonado, and Cameron Griffin combined to toss four shutout innings of relief on the night. Duff and Griffin earned their tenth and fourth save respectively.
With the doubleheader sweep, Savannah claims the Subway Series in the South presented by Amtrak, three games to one.
The Sand Gnats will travel to Hagerstown to take on the Suns for a three game set starting Wednesday. Savannah will start RHP Scarlyn Reyes (9-4, 3.29), while the Suns starter is to be determined. The Gnats will return home to take on the Southern Division leaders, the Asheville Tourists, for four games on July 30th at 7:05 PM.
