Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Another late comeback did the Greenville Drive in on Monday night, as the Asheville Tourists eked out a 3-2 win at Fluor Field and came away with a 3-1 series victory.
The top of the eighth began when Dom Nunez grounded a single into right field with one out. Following a passed ball, a ground ball by Drew Weeks was booted by Yoan Moncada at second base, which allowed Nunez to score the eventual winning run.
The rally made a winner out of Asheville starter Carlos Polanco (6-8), who spun a complete game and gave up seven hits, two runs and one walk with seven strikeouts.
The Drive (12-13, 50-45) received good pitching all night long as well, as starter Jake Drehoff put together a quality start. He was extremely efficient, throwing just 61 pitches over his six innings while allowing only two runs.
Jamie Callahan (3-6) took the tough luck loss on Monday despite allowing just one unearned run over three innings with two strikeouts.
For the second consecutive night, the Drive jumped out in front in the bottom of the first, as Michael Chavis drove a one-out double to the wall in center, and Rafael Devers smacked a double high off the Green Monster for the RBI.
That lead went to 2-0 in the fifth as Bryan Hudson singled to lead off the frame and eventually came home on Moncada's RBI single.
Nunez knotted things up at two in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer down the line in right field. He finished 2-4 with two runs and two RBI for Asheville.
Javier Guerra was the lone Drive player with a two-hit night. Roberto Ramos and Jairo Rosario added two hits apiece for the Tourists.
Following an off day on Tuesday, the Drive will head south to begin a three-game road series against the Augusta GreenJackets, affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. First pitch on Wednesday is at 7:05 PM. RH Jeffry Fernandez (3-7, 5.93 ERA) takes the mound for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will start RH Pat Young (6-1, 3.23).
