(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Lexington Legends' right-hander Pedro Fernandez has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for July 13-19, league President Eric Krupa announced Monday.
Fernandez made one start for the Legends last week. He pitched six shutout innings in the Legends' 7-4 win at Delmarva July 16. He allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
For the season, Fernandez has a record of 5-1 with an earned run average of 3.15. He was a South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star.
"Pedro has been a great representative for the Legends," said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. "He has done an outstanding job, and this recognition is well-deserved."
A native of the Dominican Republic, Fernandez, 21, signed with the Kansas City Royals as a free agent September 2, 2011.
The Legends play the West Virginia Power tonight at 7:05 in Charleston. After a day off Tuesday, the Legends will open a seven-game homestand Wednesday when they take on the Rome Braves at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time Wednesday is 12:05 p.m.
