Charleston RiverDogs News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Following a 4-1 loss to the Savannah Sand Gnats in the completion of Sunday's suspended game, the Charleston RiverDogs also dropped Monday's seven-inning contest 2-1 at Historic Grayson Stadium.

GAME ONE: Sunday's game resumed Monday evening with the score tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth. Charleston (9-15 second half, 43-51 overall) finally broke the tie with a run in the sixth inning. Jorge Mateo singled, stole second, and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Isaias Tejeda.

Savannah (9-14, 48-45) batted around and sent 10 men to the plate in a four-run seventh inning. Tyler Moore and Patrick Biondi hit back-to-back singles with the bases loaded to give the Sand Gnats their first lead of the game. After a force out at home on a ground ball, Luis Guillorme and Wuilmer Becerra followed by hitting consecutive bases-loaded singles as well to increase their lead to 4-1.

When the game resumed, Eddy Villasmil (1-0) pitched four innings to start and earned his first win of the season. His counterpart Conner Kendrick (1-2) took the loss for Charleston, giving up two runs, one earned, in three innings. Jimmy Duff retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his 10th save.

GAME TWO: In the nightcap, the RiverDogs (9-16, 43-52) got on the board first once again. With runners on the corners and two outs in the top of the second, Tejeda scored on an errant pickoff throw by the pitcher Martires Arias.

The Sand Gnats (10-14, 49-45) tied the game when the RiverDogs made an error in the bottom of the second. In the same situation with runners on the corners and two outs, Joe Tuschak stole second and John Mora scored from third on a wild throw by the catcher Collin Slaybaugh.

After Tomas Nido started the fourth with a double to right, Rony Bautista (3-3) walked three of the next five batters he faced. Guillorme drew the final walk of the frame with the bases loaded to give Savannah their one-run advantage and chase Bautista from the game.

Savannah's pitching staff did not allow an earned run in the seven-inning affair. Martires Arias (4-4) pitched the first five innings, and then the bullpen shut the door on the R'Dogs in the final two. Cameron Griffon earned his fourth save of the season.

Charleston had a golden opportunity to tie or take the lead in the top of the fifth. Vince Conde hit a two-out single, and Mateo followed with a double. Bo Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Tejeda grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
