Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, W.V. - July 20, 2015) - The West Virginia Power completed the four-game sweep of the Lexington Legends with an 8-7 victory on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia scored a run in each of the first seven innings and rallied from deficits of 4-1 and 6-3 to earn the first four-game sweep of an opponent since 2013.

Alex McRae looked sharp early with a clean first inning and received some offensive support early. Jordan Luplow hit a one-out single and scored two batters later when Michael Suchy doubled to left.

McRae struggled in the second inning by surrendering four runs on six hits, but the offense rebounded with a couple runs in the bottom of the frame. Back-to-back doubles by Pablo Reyes and Elvis Escobar resulted in a run. Luplow scored two batters later on an RBI fielder's choice from Trace Tam Sing.

The Legends scored two runs in the third inning off McRae. Michael Hill pulled a two-run triple to right which scored Brandon Downes and Alexis Rivera.

With West Virginia down 6-3, they came to within two in the bottom of the third. Jerrick Suiter hit an RBI double to score Connor Joe.

The Power continued their scoring with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Taylor Gushue led off the fourth with his third home run of the year to make it a one-run game. The Power then tied the game in the fifth when Jerrick Suiter reached on an error and scored when Pablo Reyes hit a bunt single but an errant throw from Emilio Ogando made it a 6-6 game. West Virginia took the lead in the sixth when Gushue scored from second on an RBI double by Luplow.

The lead didn't last long for West Virginia. A couple errors led to a fielder's choice from Lexington's Brandon Downes to tie the game at seven.

Pablo Reyes gave the Power yet another lead with two outs in the seventh inning. The team-leader in home runs clubbed a controversial home run when a fan caught the ball at the top of the wall. After a meeting by the umpires, they upheld the call and the Power took an 8-7 lead.

Yeudy Garcia (8-5) earned the victory after working five innings in relief of McRae. Garcia surrendered one unearned run and gave up just one hit. Emilio Ogando (5-6) took the loss.

West Virginia (18-7, 55-39) swept Lexington (10-12, 41-51) and will travel to Lakewood to begin a seven-game road trip. In game one on Wednesday, the Power will send RHP Colten Brewer (2-7, 5.29) against RHP Ranfi Casimiro (5-5, 3.52).
