'We Are Kalamazoo' Game to Feature over Sixty Silent Auction Items

KALAMAZOO, MI - As part of their "We Are Kalamazoo" game this Saturday, March 5, the Kalamazoo Wings have announced their plans to auction over 60 items that have been donated from the hockey community, as well as local businesses and organizations.

The team will be donating 100% of the money raised through the auction, featuring the 60+ items combined into 40 separate packages, valued at over $9,200.

"We have seen an overwhelming amount of support," said K-Wings director of sales Toni Daniels. "We hope to meet and exceed the value of these items so that we can donate as much as possible to the (Help Now!) fund."

Highlighted items that will be up for silent auction include signed jerseys from Danny DeKeyser (Detroit Red Wings), Ryan Miller (Vancouver Canucks), and Hockey Hall of Fame member Bernie Parent (Philadelphia Flyers). The Hockey Hall of Fame will be sending a signed Nicklas Lidstrom Detroit Red Wings jersey, a signed Hockey Hall of Fame jersey by Peter Karmanos, four passes to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and will be bringing the Hart Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Trophy to be put on display at Wings Event Center. The Tampa Bay Lightning have also sent a jersey that has been signed by the entire team. The Quad City Mallards, Colorado Eagles, and Alaska Aces have all sent signed, game-worn jerseys to be auctioned as well.

Other notable items include a "selfie" jersey, along with a five-pack ticket package from the Kalamazoo Growlers, as well as a signed football from the Greg Jennings Foundation.

"We had initially set a goal of $10,000 between ticket sales and auction items," Daniels said. "But after receiving all of these goods from such great friends of the Wings, we're hoping to eclipse the $20,000 plateau to add to the $10,000 already pledged by the Toledo Walleye organization and their fans."

The pro shop at Wings Event Center, operated by Hockey Services, will be selling "We Are Kalamazoo" shirts, with 50% of sales being donated to the fund. The Wings Event Center concessions will also be donating the first $1,000 of sales at Saturday's game.

Fans in attendance at the game will receive "We Are Kalamazoo" signs and stickers upon arrival.

"We want to provide a safe place to help begin the healing process," Daniels said. "We want this event to not only honor the victims, but show people that it's okay to have fun and enjoy our community."

The Kalamazoo Wings have pledged $2 from each ticket sold to their next home game on Saturday, March 5 against the Utah Grizzlies and all of the proceeds from the March 5 silent auction, as well as all of the proceeds from their March 17 St. Patrick's Day jerseys to the Help Now! Fund, a collaborative fund set up by the Battle Creek Community Foundation, Kalamazoo Community Foundation, and the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region.

Single-game tickets are now on sale! Tickets can be purchased at kwings.com or at the Wings Event Center box office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A $2 discount is applied on all tickets purchased before the date of the game. Any student that shows a valid ID can get tickets for just $10.
