Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals dominated the game at even strength, scoring two goals in both the first and second frame. Despite going 2-for-7 on the power play, the Thunder couldn't defeat Norfolk and fell, 5-3, at Scope Thursday night.

The Admirals shot out to a two-goal lead by 14:06 of the first period. Michael Pelech muscled the puck out from along the boards and sent a pass through the crease that found a streaking Scott Allen, who netted his 15th goal of the season and the first goal for Norfolk. Allen beat Adirondack netminder, Drew Fielding, at 4:57 in the opening frame.

An unanswered marker found the back of Adirondack's net when Samuel Noreau's shot from the right point went in at 14:06, surprising Fielding and doubling Norfolk's lead, 2-0.

Adirondack responded just under a minute later when Steven Whitney sat for goaltender inference. Louick Marcotte capitalized on a rebound as Peter MacArthur's shot was denied by the post at 15:08 and cut Norfolk's lead in half.

Although the Thunder's goal came at the end of the first, the Admirals carried the momentum into the second frame. During 4-on-4 play, Braden Christoffer, stumbling to the ice, managed to one-time a Greg Chase backhand pass that widened the margin, 3-1, at 3:14 of the second.

Five minutes later, Adirondack scored on the power play for the second time. As Nick MacNeil sat for tripping, Gunnar Hughes tallied his 10th goal of the season at 8:30 in the second frame.

Less than six minutes later, just after Norfolk's power play ended, Maxime Legault notched Norfolk's fourth goal, regaining their two-goal lead.

At 15:57 of the third frame, Nick Pageau flicked in a behind-the-back backhander earning his second point of the night and the first star of the game. Thunder defenseman Luke Curadi planted the final goal of the game a couple minutes later, resting the score at 5-3.

Ty Rimmer blocked 19 of 22 shots, and the Admirals went scoreless on the man advantage. The Admirals conclude the back-to-back series at Scope Friday night, looking for a home ice sweep against the Thunder.

Three Stars:

1.NOR - 8 Pageau

2.NOR - 23 Pelech

3.NOR - 15 Chase
