
Asselin Traded to Alaska, Betker Recalled

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals announce today that forward Janick Asselin has been traded to the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for defenceman Davis Vandane. In addition, the Admirals AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, have recalled defenceman Ben Betker.
Asselin, 22, appeared in 8 games for the Norfolk Admirals, registering 3 assists, 6 PIMs, and a -1 rating. The 5-foot-6, 161-pound winger turned pro following a two-year career at Clarkson University where he appeared in 40 games and scored four goals and 12 assists. The native of Coaticook, QC also played four seasons with the Sherbrooke College Champlain Cougars in the Quebec Junior Hockey League from 2010-2014, posting 123 goals and 145 helpers for 268 points in 186 career games.
Vandane, 23, turned pro after completing a two-year college career in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) league, registering 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) in 33 games with the University of Calgary. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Yorkton, Saskatchewan native scored his first professional goal on Feb. 6, 2016 with the Alaska Aces in a 5-2 loss to the Idaho Steelheads. He has tallied 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) and a plus-2 rating in 30 ECHL games this season.
Betker, 21, has played in 49 games with the Norfolk Admirals during his rookie season, registering 17 points (3 goals, 14 assists) as a defenceman and appeared in a single game with the Bakersfield Condors earlier this season. The 6-foot-6, 223-pound Cranbrook, BC native was drafted by Edmonton 158th overall in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
