Colorado Eagles News Release
(Loveland, CO) -- The Colorado Eagles ran their winning streaking to five-consecutive games on Wednesday night, picking up a 3-1 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets at the Budweiser Events Center. Adrian Veideman and Darryl Bootland each notched a goal and an assist, while goaltender Kris Lazaruk picked up 30 saves on 31 shots in the victory.
After a scoreless first period, the Eagles put the first notch on the board with 5:26 to play in the middle frame. Veideman continued his hot-streak, taking a drop pass from Bootland and scoring from the right-hand side off the rush to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. The goal was Veideman's seventh goal in ten games.
Just 2:02 later, the Eagles picked up a power-play marker when Bootland chased down a rebound in the crease and swept it home, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the 16:38 mark of the second frame. Veideman picked up an assist for his second point of the night on the play.
Early in the third, Fort Wayne finally broke through when forward Jamie Schaafsma took advantage of an Eagles turnover in the neutral zone and scored on a short-handed breakaway. The tally cut Colorado's lead to 2-1 at the 2:46 mark of the third period.
The Komets pulled their goaltender with 1:30 left in the game and just 26 seconds later, Eagles forward Trent Daavettila scored an empty-netter giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Colorado would hold on for the win and now move into seventh place in the Western Conference standings. The Eagles went a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill, while sporting a 1-for-6 mark on the power play.
The Eagles continue their home stand on Saturday when the Allen Americans come to the Budweiser Event Center. Puck drop is at 7:05. ?
