Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

Looking back at last week: Friday night in Brampton, forward Marek Tvrdon picked up his team-leading fourth goal of the season as the Walleye blew past the Beast in a 4-1 win. In the rematch Sunday, the Beast scored four unanswered goals from the late second period through the third period as Toledo dropped a 5-2 decision, snapping a three-game winning streak.

Looking back at October : Toledo finished the first month of the year with a record of 3-1-1. The Walleye played just three games last year in October going 2-1-0. Since starting play in the 2009-10 season, Toledo has an all-time record of 18-12-5 in the month of October.

Give him a pair: Forward Shane Berschbach picked up his first two goals of the season Sunday in Brampton. Shane's five points (2G, 3A) is tied for the team lead in points with Alden Hirschfeld (3G, 2A), Marek Tvrdon (4G, 1A) and Tyler Sikura (2G, 3A).

Lerg walling up: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 35 of 36 shots he faced Friday night in Brampton. Lerg has picked up back to back victories following a 3-2 shootout loss in Indy to open the 2015-16 season. For the year, his 1.62 goals against average (6th) and .937 save percentage (9th) each rank in the top 10 of all ECHL goaltenders.

Nedomlel climbing the ladder : Defenseman Richard Nedomlel came into this year third on the Walleye all-time list in penalty minutes with 206. He currently has added 12 more to that total this year pushing him to 218 in a Toledo uniform. He is just 21 penalty minutes shy of Cody Lampl (239) and 25 from tying Adam Keefe (243) for the most by a Walleye player.

Opening Night : Toledo's week starts with its first midweek game of the season, Wednesday night in Cincinnati. The Cyclones defeated Toledo 5-1 earlier this season in Cincinnati. Friday night, Toledo will head to Fort Wayne for the first of nine meetings this season between the rivals. On Saturday night, the Huntington Center will be rocking for the first home game of the season. Toledo will host the Adirondack Thunder for the only meeting between the two teams. The Thunder (6-0-0) head into the week as the lone team in the ECHL not to suffer a loss.
