Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, are pleased to announce that defenseman Eric Baier has been named a co-recipient of the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for October after sharing the league lead with a plus-minus rating of +7.
Baier, 27, is the first-ever Solar Bears player to earn the monthly award, which he shares with Fort Wayne Komets defensemen Drew Daniels and Jordon Southorn. Baier posted an even or better rating in five of the Solar Bears' games during the month and was a +3 on Oct. 22 against Norfolk. He also matched a career-high with three assists in a single game on Oct. 30 at Elmira.
A native of North Kingstown, R.I., Baier is in his third season with the Solar Bears, and has suited up in 116 regular season games for Orlando in that time, recording 51 points (19g-32a) in that span.
Baier has 81 points (26g-55a) in 229 career ECHL games with Orlando, Trenton and Reading and he has tallied five points (2g-3a) in 44 career AHL games with Portland, Albany, Rockford, Providence and Charlotte.
In recognition of his accomplishment, AMI Graphics will present Baier with a personalized Plus Performer of the Month Banner during an on-ice ceremony at an upcoming Solar Bears home game.
The Solar Bears continue their fourth season in the ECHL, presented by Auto Justice Attorney Michael T. Gibson, P.A. at home on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center against the Florida Everblades, when the Solar Bears will host Epilepsy Awareness Night and Teacher Appreciation Weekend. The first 3,000 fans in attendance that night will also receive a free poster commemorating 10 seasons of Solar Bears hockey in Orlando.
