Monarchs Weekly Preview

November 2, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

WEEKEND REVIEW

The Monarchs earned their second win of the season, and first win against the Elmira Jackals, 4-2, Oct. 31. The game against their divisional rivals marked the first of eleven meetings the two teams will have this season. Maxim Kitsyn registered his first goal of the season, while Matt Leitner (1g, 1a), Joe Diamond (2a) and Stefan Legein (1g, 1a) all recorded two points each. Legein's first ECHL goal also marked the 55th of his professional career. Michael Houser was a rock in net, stopping 38 of the 40 shots he faced, including nine saves on a single Elmira power play late in the second period.

HEADING TO BRAMPTON

The weekend three-game series marks the first of four games the Monarchs will play in Brampton, Ontario. The team will make its last trip across the border Wednesday, Dec. 9 for an 11 a.m. puck drop. The Beast are currently sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference (3 pts.)

LEADING THE WAY

Rookie forward, Matt Leitner (2g, 2a), and Joe Diamond (1g, 3a) lead the Monarchs with four points each, heading into the weekend with Brampton. Leitner's first goal of the season, and first goal in Monarchs ECHL history, started the comeback against Brampton on Opening Night, Oct. 16, in a 2-1 Monarchs victory. Leitner and Diamond have now scored points in three of the Monarchs' four games this season.

MAN ADVANTAGE?

The Monarchs remain snake-bitten on the power play, as the team has now been unsuccessful on all 14 of their chances early into the season. Brampton, on the other hand, is ranked 7th in the ECHL at 21.4%

The Monarchs have the week off from games heading into the three-game weekend with Brampton, but the road ahead gets grueling once Friday comes.
