Walleye Take North Division Crown with 5-2 Win

(Toledo, OH) Jeff Lerg made 38 saves to backstop the Walleye to a 5-2 win over Cincinnati Friday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 49-14-5-2 on the season and has a record of 25-6-2-2 in home games. The win clinches the first division title in Walleye history.

The power play gave Toledo a 1-0 lead as Tyler Barnes scored his 30th goal of the season at 10:38 of the first period. Cincinnati collected a power play goal to even the score at one after the opening period.

The Cyclones scored at 3:31 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Toledo tied it when A.J. Jenks (12th) sent in a backhand shot at 5:41. Just 37 seconds into the third period, Kevin Clare's (3rd) blue line shot deflected past Cincinnati goaltender Rob Madore to give the Walleye a 3-2 lead.

Tyler Barnes picked up his second goal of the night at 8:56 and Jenks collected the empty net goal to end the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg made 38 saves on the 40 Cincinnati shots and his record is 32-8-2-1. Lerg has tied Mike Williams (1991-92) for the second most wins in a single season of Toledo ECHL history. Toledo's 105 points set a new Toledo ECHL single record for points.
