Royals Sign Forward Cody Murphy to ATO

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Cody Murphy to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. In a separate transaction, the Royals released forward Justin Crandall from his ATO.

Murphy (5'11/202) (23), who hails from Highwood, Illinois, just completed his senior season at Miami University (Ohio), where he registered twenty-four points (13-g-11a) and twenty-two penalty minutes and played to a plus-13 (+13) in forty games for the RedHawks, who won the National Collegiate Hockey Conference tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years. Murphy was named the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, including after he had racked up his first career hattrick against the University of Nebraska-Omaha on December 5, 2014. Murphy, who was named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team in his junior season, registered sixty-three points (31g-32a) and fifty penalty minutes in 134 collegiate games with the Red Hawks.

NEXT UP: The Royals kick off the final weekend of the regular season with the first of two against the Indy Fuel tonight (Friday, April 10 @ 7:30 pm), when the Royals will honor the efforts of the American Cancer Society. It is also the team's sixth and final Free Shirt Friday when the first 1500 fans fifteen years of age and older will get a t-shirt honoring goaltender Jonathan Quick, who played for the Royals in the 2007-08 season and is currently a member of the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. The game night broadcast for tonight's matchup can be heard live on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 in Reading, Pennsylvania, starting with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 7:00 pm Eastern Time. Streaming audio is available free of charge on the Royals' website (follow the 'headset' icon); and streaming video is available on a pay-per-view basis through ECHL.TV.
