Stingrays Add Florida Native in Defenseman R.J. Boyd

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, signed defenseman Ronald (R.J.) Boyd, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Boyd, 24, attended Michigan State University the last three seasons netting 27 points (four goals, 23 assists) in 111 games and was selected in the seventh round (183 overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. Before joining the NCAA ranks, the Lake Worth, Florida, native skated a season and a half of junior hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Indiana Ice and Chicago Steel adding 16 points (three goals, 13 assists).

The Stingrays close the regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 11 against the Evansville IceMen at 7:05 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night. The first 1,000 fans receive a 2014-15 Stingrays team photo courtesy of Sheila Lauffer of Data Imaging and a new member of The Post and Courier Stingrays Hall of Fame will be inducted during the first intermission. Saturday also features FREE parking, the Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Postgame Retro Jersey Auction!
