Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the second of five head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel fell to the Toledo Walleye on Friday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 8-1. With the loss, the Fuel dropped to 6-18-3-3 overall this season and with 18 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings. Friday's announced attendance of 6,128 fans was the second-largest crowd at Indiana Farmers Coliseum for a Fuel game this season, surpassed only by the Fuel's opening night attendance mark of 6,488, registered during the team's inaugural game.
After a mostly scoreless first period, Toledo exploded for three straight goals late in the opening frame as Shane Sims, Kyle Rogers and Shane Berschbach tallied at 16:19, 16:40 and 19:35, respectively, to make it 3-0 Walleye heading into the middle stanza.
In the second, the Fuel drew within two at 1:23 on Garett Bembridge's tenth score of the season, but three more Toledo tallies, from Kevin Clare at 2:11 and Anthony Luciani at 4:17 and 5:20, pushed the Walleye advantage to 6-1 through 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, a pair of Joel Chouinard goals, at 3:49 on the power-play and at 11:48 at even strength, capped the scoring for the Walleye and established Toledo's final margin of victory at 8-1.
