DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators (9-18-1-0) return to the ice with their first game in 2015 as they take on the Elmira Jackals (16-12-0-3) for the first time this year. Thanks to the ECHL realignment shortly before this season, Elmira is now in the Gladiators' East Division along with their former North Division rivals, the Reading Royals. Last season, the Gladiators took on the Jackals three times, taking two matches - a 5-1 win on March 17th, and a 7-0 rout in the team's season finale on April 12th.
Glads Notes:
Welcome Aboard: The Gladiators welcomed in two new faces since the New Year. First Mike Flanagan was hired as the team's fourth assistant coach in Gladiators' history on Wednesday. Flanagan brings coaching experience from the AHL and most recently, from Italy. On Friday the team also welcomed back fan-favorite Louis Domingue, who was assigned to Gwinnett by the Arizona Coyotes.
Power Surge: The Gladiators power play is clicking at an 18% conversion rate, good for 12th in the league. At home, the team is 8-for-51 (15.7%), 17th in the league. On the road, they are even better - 10-for-49 (20.4%), 6th in the ECHL. The team has scored a power play goal in eight of their last eleven games played.
Shooting Gallery: Through the Gladiators' first 17 games this season, the team had 30+ shots in a game only twice. Since December 10th, they've had six games with 30+ shots, and have averaged over 32 shots per game. The team has also had over 30 shots in four of their last five games.
No Shot: The Glads are the only team in the league to not have reached the shootout this season, but they are 2-1 in OT.
Gladiators Ahoy: Three players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- James Melindy, Dyson Stevenson, and Louis Domingue - and seven more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), Greg Carey (POR), Mike Lee (POR), Jordon Southorn (POR), Bretton Stamler (HFD), and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (NOR) - have spent time in the AHL this year.
Milestones: Tristin Llewellyn is three games away from his 200th professional match ... Garry Nunn is two goals away from his 50th professional tally ... Geoff Paukovich is two goals from his 50th as a pro, and two points away from his 100th ECHL point.
Streaks: J.P. Labardo has three goals and four assists in his last six games ... Casey Pierro-Zabotel has a goal and ten assists in his last eight games; he had a six-game point streak snapped on Saturday ... Marshall Everson has two goals and four assists in his last five games ...
