Evansville IceMen News Release
IceMen Tumble in Beaulieu's Head Coaching Debut EVANSVILLE, Ind-With Josh Beaulieu as the new coach at the helm, the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, charged out to a 1-0 first period lead. However, the Reading Royals (18-10-1-1, 38 points) scored two in the second and one in the third to spoil Beaulieu's debut as interim head coach. A crowd of 4,653 fans flocked to the Ford Center to watch the IceMen's record move to (9-17-2-2, 22 points) in a 3-1 loss.
On their first power play of the game, the IceMen wasted little time making Reading pay for their penalty. Jim McKenzie sent a cross crease pass to Troy Rutkowski, who fired in his second of the year just seven seconds into the man advantage. Kale Kerbashian picked up an assist that put the IceMen ahead 1-0 going into the first break.
Chris Driedger turned away 14 Royal shots to keep Reading off the scoreboard in the first. Driedger stopped 35 of the 38 shots he faced on the night.
Early in the second, Reading fought back. Adam Hughesman deflected in a Zach Davies shot. Then David Marshall scored on the rebound from a Davies shot to give Reading a 2-1 just 1:39 into the middle period.
In the third period, Olivier Labelle poked in a rebound from a Mike Marcou attempt to give the Royals a 3-1 lead. Connor Knapp contained the IceMen in the final two periods to give Reading the win. Knapp stopped 26 IceMen shots to earn his eighth victory of the year.
The IceMen will to get back in the win column as they take on the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night. The game will begin at 7:15 p.m. as the IceMen wrap up their three-game home stand.
It will be Finish the Fight Night at the Ford Center presented by the American Cancer Society. The first 6,500 fans at the Ford Center will receive a free T-Shirt.
