Walleye Infect Admirals on Zombie Night with 2-1 Overtime Win

(Toledo, OH) A Huntington Center record crowd of 8,367 saw Beau Schmitz score in overtime to beat Norfolk 2-1 Saturday night. Toledo has an overall record of 39-15-2-3 and 23-5-0-1 on the road. The win was the 13th consecutive at home for the Walleye.

The Walleye took a 1-0 lead when Evan Rankin (10th) tipped a Ralfs Freibergs pass into the net at 7:39 of the first period. Norfolk tied the game at 10:02 of the first period. Toledo dominated the game from the start of the second period out shooting Norfolk 31-13.

In the overtime, Josh Shalla sent a pass in front of the Admirals net that defenseman Beau Schmitz deflected over the glove hand of Norfolk goaltender Ty Rimmer for the win. The 5th goal of the year for Schmitz came at 2:15 of the extra session. Toledo is 2-2 in overtime games this year.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg finished the game with 22 saves on 23 shots and has a record of 24-7-1-2 on the season. The Walleye penalty kill has not allowed a power play goal against in 30 straight shorthanded opportunities over eleven straight games, which is a Walleye record. The 8,367 set a new Huntington Center record for attendance breaking the old mark of 8,317 set on opening night this year on November 7, 2015.

Walleye Transaction: Forward Zach Nastasiuk was reassigned today to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Nastasiuk has 10 goals and 10 assists in 25 games played with Toledo this year and has four more assists in 15 games with the Griffins.
