INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI - The Missouri Mavericks announced Saturday morning that Jesse Root, the leading goal-scorer of the No. 1 team in the ECHL, will undergo surgery and several months of rehab, and is to miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season with the Mavericks.

Root, 26, sustained a serious lower-body injury as a result of the actions of Spencer Asuchak during the Missouri Mavericks road game against the Allen Americans (Game #810) on Wednesday, Mar. 9-for which Asuchak was fined an undisclosed amount and suspended indefinitely by the league under Rule #28 - Supplementary Discipline as the result of an unpenalized slew foot at 15:57 of the first period.

Through 50 games-played with Missouri this season, Root accumulated 59 points (26G,33A). He is currently third in the league amongst top point-scorers (59), third overall in goals (26), leads the ECHL in game-winning goals (8) and plus/minus (+34), and ends his season as the Mavs leading scorer.
