Owuya Makes 40 Saves as Eagles Fall

March 12, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

(West Valley City, UT) - Utah goaltender Mark Owuya stopped 40 of Colorado's 41 shots, while forwards Ryan Hayes and T.J. Syner each scored a pair of goals in the Grizzlies 5-1 win over Colorado on Saturday night. It was Colorado's first regulation loss in their last nine contests.

Utah lit the lamp 8:29 into the first period when forward Charles Sarault snagged a rebound between the circles and snapped it past Eagles goaltender Kris Lazaruk to give the Grizzlies the 1-0 lead.

Just over seven minutes later, Utah raced down the ice on a 3-on-2 rush, setting up Syner to blister home a rebound on top of the crease to extend the Grizzlies lead to 2-0 with 4:21 remaining in the first.

Utah would grow their lead in the second period, as Hayes would bury two goals in a span of 17 seconds. The Grizzlies' lead would become 3-0 when Hayes took advantage of a 2-on-1 breakaway to notch his seventh goal of the season at the 17:56 mark of the middle frame.

After the ensuing faceoff, Hayes wrapped behind the Eagles net and beat Lazaruk top-shelf to give Utah the 4-0 advantage heading into the intermission.

Utah would keep their foot on the gas in the third period, as Syner would field a rebound off the right leg pad of Lazaruk and shove it in the back of the net to make it 5-0 Utah with 8:03 gone in the final frame.

The Eagles would finally solve Owuya when defenseman Adrian Veideman settled a loose puck in the slot and fired it home to cut the Grizzlies lead to 5-1. Colorado would come no closer, falling by a 5-1 score after 60 minutes of play.

Colorado travels to Rapid City to face the Rush on Tuesday, March 15th at 6:35pm.

Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
