BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Jan. 9, 2011) ‚¬" Viatcheslav Voynov's goal 32 seconds into overtime spoiled a furious third-period comeback from the Sound Tigers as the Manchester Monarchs defeated Bridgeport 4-3 in overtime at the Webster Bank Arena on Sunday night. Manchester improves to 25-14-1-1 with the win. The Sound Tigers record now sits at 18-17-3-2 following their second straight overtime loss.

The Monarchs took advantage of a Sound Tigers turnover to take a 1-0 lead at 7:40. The Sound Tigers were unable to clear the zone to the left of Mikko Koskinen, and Marc-Andre Cliche fired the puck towards the Sound Tigers net. Koskinen made the initial save, but Bud Holloway collected the rebound and slid it past the stick of Koskinen for his 13th goal of the year to put Manchester in front. The Monarchs increased the lead to two midway through the opening frame. Richard Clune skated behind the Sound Tigers net and batted the puck in to give Manchester a 2-0 lead which carried into the first intermission.

Brandon Svendsen would cut the Sound Tigers deficit in half at the 7:15 of the second period. Mikko Koskinen made a key save on a Monarchs odd-man rush and Rob Hisey led the Sound Tigers back on their own rush. The puck found Ty Wishart's stick, and his initial shot was stopped before Svendsen banged home the rebound to make it 2-1 in favor of Manchester. The Monarchs would retake a two-goal lead at 13:34. Dwight King's hooking penalty had just expired and created an odd-man rush that Manchester would take advantage of. The puck was dropped off to Viatcheslav Voynov in the low slot who snapped a shot to the right of Koskinen for his seventh goal of the season to make it 3-1.

The score stayed that way until the 6:28 mark of the third period when the Sound Tigers began their charge. Hard work from Olivier Labelle and Tony Romano along the boards freed the puck to Justin DiBenedetto in the left circle who roofed his fourth goal of the year to cut the deficit to one. Labelle's hard work would tie the game with just under nine minutes left in regulation. Labelle skated in at the end of a long shift and deflected David Ullstromm's feed as he cut to the net for his third of the season knot the score at three.

Voynov's game-winner came 17 seconds after it appeared Manchester had already won the game. King deflected Voynov's shot past Koskinen and referee Chris Cozzan initially ruled it a goal. However, linesman Luke Galvin conferred with Cozzan and they ruled that King deflected the puck with a high stick. Voynov would then fire a loose puck from the slot past Koskinen on the ensuing possession for his second goal of the game, giving Manchester the 4-3 win.

The Sound Tigers will look to snap their five-game winless streak Friday night when they open a two-game series in Norfolk against the Admirals.
