Wolves Dedicate Weekend to the Fight Against Cancer

The Chicago Wolves have dedicated this weekend to the Fight Against Cancer and will be raising funds, awareness and support for those affected by cancer through a variety of avenues at the games at the Allstate Arena on Fri., Jan. 14; Sat., Jan. 15, and Sun., Jan. 16.

Each night, the players will don special ‚¬Å“Fight Against Cancer ‚¬Â jerseys, presented by Chase. The specialty jerseys, along with a one-of-a-kind goalie mask created for the weekend, will be available in a silent auction and raffle throughout the games. Proceeds will benefit Little Heroes Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Chicago Wolves Charities and other cancer-related causes.

McHenry, Ill., native, SARA SCHUSTER, fiancee of Wolves right wing DARREN HAYDAR, will open the weekend events with a ceremonial puck drop on Friday. The 27-year-old SCHUSTER was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2008, and after extensive treatment, has been cancer free since April 2009.

‚¬Å“I ‚¬Ëœm very proud to be a part of this Wolves charity event, being a cancer patient myself,said SCHUSTER. ‚¬Å“Every event that raises money for research towards a cure means so much to the people affected by this terrible disease, and this is a wonderful way to donate to an important cause. When you buy these jerseys, you won't only be wearing your favorite player's sweater, you're wearing your support for a cure for cancer. ‚¬Â

HAYDAR will wear a different jersey at each of the three games: one for the silent auction, one for an auction at chicagowolves.com, and one for a raffle at the games. In addition to the HAYDAR jersey, forwards RILEY HOLZAPFEL and JAMIE HUNT and Assistant Coach RON WILSON's jerseys will also be available in the raffle. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20, and the winners will be selected at the end of the game on Jan. 16.

The Wolves also will be hosting a ‚¬Å“Hospital Wish List Drive ‚¬Â at each of the three games where fans can donate items such as toys, games, arts, crafts and books to help brighten patients' time in the children's hospital brighter and allow them to feel like kids while away from school and peers. Items must to be new to ensure safety for patients who may have compromised immune systems, and will benefit local hospitals, including the Children's Memorial Hospital and Comer Children's Hospital.

Every fan that donates an item will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a $50 merchandise credit to chicagowolvesstore.com.

Buffalo Grove native and neuroblastoma survivor, 15-year-old AVI ASHER, will perform Saturday's ceremonial puck drop, while five-year-old Skokie native and leukemia patient, GRIFFIN MAKS, will drop the puck before Sunday's 4 p.m. tilt.
