Amerks Reading Power Play Features Quartet of Visits this Week
Published on January 10, 2011 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans Reading Power Play program continues this week with four visits from four different Amerks within the next three days.
The Amerks Reading Power Play begins its second round of the 2011 slate tonight with a 6:30 p.m. visit from winger PJ Fenton at the Chili Public Library (3333 Chili Ave.). The next appearance on Tuesday, January 11th will be at the Mendon Community Center (167 North Main St.) at 6:30 p.m. by rookie forward Eric Selleck. Lastly, wrapping up the week on Wednesday, January 12th, defenseman Colby Robak will make a late afternoon stop at the Sully Branch Library (530 Webster Ave.) at 4:00 p.m. before fellow blueliner Joe Callahan concludes the day with a 6:30 p.m. appearance at the Winton Branch Library (611 Winton Road North).
The Amerks are back in town on Friday, January 14th as the team takes the ice against the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
Tonight and the following two nights, however, the players will showcase their reading prowess, not their on-ice skills. They will be joined by The Moose, as they teach kids about hockey and the importance of reading. The "Reading Power Play" involves players stopping by local libraries, reading to kids and giving a hockey demonstration. Each appearance also features a raffle for Amerk memorabilia and an autograph session by the visiting player and The Moose.
At each event, the Amerks will distribute ticket vouchers to each youth in attendance good for one complimentary ticket for any future Amerks home game. Additional discounted tickets in the 200-Ends can also be purchased for as little as $10.00 with the opportunity to upgrade to another section of choice.
The second half of "Reading Power Play" enters kids into a grand prize drawing. Youth participants fill out a form for every three books they read, which then qualifies them for an entry into the grand prize drawing. The two winners will receive grand prize packages that include dinner, suite tickets and the opportunity to make the ceremonial puck drop at the Amerks' Sunday, February 13th home game against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The "Reading Power Play" runs from Thursday, October 14th to Tuesday, January 25th. A complete reading program schedule will be available at the Amerks Guest Services Booth in the upper atrium lobby on game nights and online at amerks.com.
