THE WEEK THAT WAS:

Wednesday, Devils 2 vs. Adirondack 3 (Shootout)

Stephen Gionta had two goals and Michael Swift and Chad Wiseman assisted on both of them, but the Devils lost, 3-2, in a shootout to Adirondack at the Times Union Center. The game was the fifth of the Time Warner Cable Cup series, which the Phantoms lead, 3-2. Michael Ryan had a pair of goals for the visitors and Adirondack rallied in the shootout after falling behind 3-1. Jeff Frazee was between the pipes for the Devils. He made 20 stops, including key saves late in the game. For the Phantoms, Brian Stewart earned the win with 26 stops.

Friday, Devils 2 vs. Charlotte 4

Michael Swift and Matt Anderson scored for the Devils, who lost 4-2 to the Checkers at the Times Union Center. The Checkers were led by goaltender Justin Pogge ‚¬â„¢s 37-save performance, including 26 stops in the second and third periods. Swift ‚¬â„¢s goal came in the form of a penalty shot at 13:55 of the second to make it 1-1. After Charlotte responded with back-to-back goals, Jacob Josefson sprang Anderson for a breakaway. Anderson went high blocker at 4:14 of the third. Nicolas Blanchard, Chris Terry, Jerome Samson and Brett Sutter each scored for Charlotte.

Saturday, Devils 2 vs. Syracuse 1

Matt Anderson and Adam Henrique each had a goal and an assist as the Devils grabbed a 2-1 victory against the Crunch at the Times Union Center. The tandem assisted on each other ‚¬â„¢s goals and Anderson netted the winner at 4:04 of the final period. Mike McKenna had 23 saves, including a key stop while on his back less than a minute before Anderson netted the game-winning tally. The win was the first for Albany at the Times Union Center since Nov. 27 (vs. Binghamton, 4-3).

NOTABLES:

-- Michael Swift saw his point streak halted at 10 games ‚¬" the longest in franchise history. During the run, he posted 12 points with seven goals and five assists. He netted a penalty shot goal on Friday for the Devils ‚¬â„¢ first penalty shot conversion since Feb. 3, 2007 when Petr Vrana beat Hershey netminder Frederic Cassivi.

-- Matt Anderson registered points in back-to-back games for the 11th time this season. He had a goal against Charlotte on Friday and followed with the game-winning goal and an assist against Syracuse on Saturday. Anderson leads the team with 25 points and is tied for first with 13 goals.

-- On Friday, Jacob Josefson returned to the Albany lineup for the first time since the home-opener on Oct. 9. Josefson was recalled by New Jersey on Oct. 14 and made his NHL debut against Colorado on Oct. 15. He was placed on the team ‚¬â„¢s I.R. on Nov. 4 and missed 30 games (Oct. 19 ‚¬" Jan. 6). Josefson is on a two-game point streak with assists against Charlotte on Friday and against Syracuse on Saturday.

-- Rookie Adam Henrique registered his third multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist against Syracuse on Saturday. Henrique is third on the team with 19 points backed by nine goals and 10 assists.

-- Stephen Gionta posted his seventh-career multi-goal game with a pair against Adirondack on Wednesday. Gionta has 13 points on the season with six goals and seven assists.

-- Mark Fayne was recalled by New Jersey and posted a plus-3 rating in the Devils 6-3 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday. The defenseman is making his second stint in the NHL this season.

-- Nick Palmieri netted his first-career NHL goal against the Lightning on Sunday. He earned an empty-netter with 14 seconds remaining. He was recalled by New Jersey on Dec. 30.

NEXT UP:

Tuesday, Devils at Worcester (7:00 p.m.)

These two teams are meeting for the third time this season. Albany staked a 3-2 win at Worcester on Nov. 5, but lost, 6-3, at the Times Union Center on Dec. 11. The Sharks are in fourth in the Atlantic Division with an 18-13-2-5 (43 pts.) record and are coming off a 3-2, shootout loss to Springfield on Sunday. Jonathan Cheechoo leads the team with 35 points, including 13 goals and 22 assists.

Friday, Devils vs. Binghamton (7:00 p.m.)

The Devils won the last contest against the Senators, 5-4, on Dec. 31. They lead the season series, 2-1, with five outings still remaining between the teams. Binghamton sits in fifth in the East Division with a 19-16-2-2 (42 pts.) mark and is 6-4-0-0 in its last 10 games. Corey Locke not only leads the team, but also the league with 51 points, including a league-best 38 assists. He has posted at least one point in eight of the last nine contests (2g-13a).

Saturday, Devils vs. Springfield (7:00 p.m.)

Saturday ‚¬â„¢s contest will be the 39th meeting all-time between the two clubs and the Devils own an 18-17-1-2 record. Springfield is sixth in the Atlantic Division with an 18-16-1-3 (40 pts.) record and has registered a point in eight of the last 10 games (6-2-0-2). Trevor Smith, who had four goals against the Devils while with Syracuse on Jan. 2, leads the team with 29 points behind 14 goals and 15 assists.
