Adirondack Phantoms News Release
The Adirondack Phantoms have announced that they are accepting nominations for the second class of the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame presented by Glens Falls National Bank featuring new, enhanced fan participation in the decision process.
Fans may suggest up to six Adirondack hockey greats for consideration by sending an e-mail to Phantoms Vice President Mike Thompson at mthompson@phantomshockey.com [mailto:mthompson@phantomshockey.com]. After the finalists are selected, the fans will be a part of the final vote to determine who will be inducted.
Any man or woman who has helped advance or promote the sport of hockey at any level in the North Country is eligible to be nominated. This includes players, coaches, media or fans and other supporters from youth hockey all the way up to the professional level.
Those selected will be honored during Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame Night presented by Glens Falls National Bank which will take place on March 12. The induction ceremony will be held during a pregame reception in Heritage Hall and the 2011 class will be honored on the ice in festivities throughout that evening's Phantoms game.
The 2010 inaugural class included legendary Adirondack Red Wings Head Coach Bill Dineen, Red Wings players Greg Joly and Glenn Merkosky, and Glens Falls Civic Center director Ned Harkness who was largely responsible for the construction of the arena and the arrival of AHL hockey in Glens Falls.
"Last year's inaugural Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame Weekend was a terrific success as we honored some of the region's all-time best over an incredible and memorable weekend," said Thompson. "This season we are building on that momentum while also bringing in our fans to be an important part of the selection process. We believe they will enjoy nominating and voting for the greats of the area."
The Adirondack Hall of Fame selection committee is comprised of hockey historians, former professional players and hockey executives, media members and youth hockey organizers. The selection committee is currently made up of six voting members. The seventh vote belongs to the fans as they will get to cast their ballot on phantomshockey.com OFYJGpzkcXwHv6PYOklg1oQfd4WTab5yYfzZyQ==] or the Phantoms Facebook page.
