Pirates Date Night

Good Shepherd Food Bank Night

The Pirates kick the weekend Friday when the Connecticut Whale visit the Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start.

It's Good Shepherd Food Bank Night and fans will receive two free tickets to a future Pirates game when they donate a non-perishable food itemto the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Seat Cushion Giveaway Night/UNUM Challenge

Come out to the Civic Center this Saturday and witness another exciting American Hockey League matchup as the Worcester Sharks come to town for game five of the UNUM Challenge. The Portland Press Herald will also be giving away a free seat cushion to the first 500 fans through the gate.

Pirates Community Involvement

For the third straight season the Pirates have teamed up with Goodwill Industries of Northern New England in hosting two special "Goodwill Nights" in which fans could donate clothing or other acceptable items to Goodwill in exchange for free Pirates tickets.

The second and final Goodwill Night of the 2010-11 season was held on Friday when the Pirates faced the Springfield Falcons. More than 450 pounds of donations were collected to bring the 2010-11 total to an impressive 1,870 pounds, the most for one year of collections!

Also on Friday, the Pirates hosted Camp Bow Wow Adopt-a-Dog Night. More than 200 pounds of pet food was collected along with more than 100 donations either in the form of food or pet toys.

Saturday night was Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northern New England Night when the Manchester Monarchs came to town to face the Pirates. More than $1,000 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northern New England through online ticket sales, the Hollywood Slots 50/50 raffle and various cash donations accepted at the game.

The Portland Pirates would like to thank all of the fans who generously donated to assist the community during the holiday season, and also Goodwill for allowing us the opportunity to assist on their behalf.

Pirates Recap

This past week, the Pirates reeled off three straight wins for the first time since winning three straight games on the road midway through December to climb right back into the race for first place in the Atlantic Division.

On Wednesday the Pirates travelled down to Bridgeport to face the Sound Tigers for the sixth of 10 meetings this season. Justin Bowers and Mark Mancari each scored a goal and an assist and Marc-Andre Gragnani had three assists to lead the Portland Pirates to a 5-3 win at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Paul Byron, Maxime Legault and T.J. Brennan also scored for the Pirates, who ended a three-game winless streak with the win and evened the season series between the two clubs at 3-3.

To kickoff the weekend, the Pirates welcomed Springfield to the Civic Center on Friday night. Four players netted goals and Jhonas Enroth made 22 saves to lead Portland to a 4-1 victory. Dennis Persson, Maxime Legault, Marc-Andre Gragnani, and Mark Mancari all scored goals and Paul Byron extended his career high points streak to six games (4-4-8) on an assist to help the Pirates in the victorious effort.

The following evening, an important divisional battle ensued as the first-place Manchester Monarchs came to town. Dennis McCauley and Maxime Legault each scored two goals to send the Pirates to an exciting 4-3 win. Marc-Andre Gragnani earned two assists and five other Pirates contributed assists to the offensive effort to help Portland move within three points of the Atlantic Division lead.

The Pirates currently stand at 21-11-4-1 with 47 points, which puts them in a tie for second-place with the Connecticut Whale in the Atlantic Division (five points behind first-place Manchester).
