LAST WEEK ‚¬â„¢S HIGHLIGHTS

At Providence (1/7): Goaltender Matt Dalton halted all 34 shots on goal that he faced, lifting the Providence Bruins over the Manchester Monarchs by a 3-0 score Friday evening at the Dunkin ‚¬â„¢ Donuts Center. Manchester was shutout for the first time all season. Center Joe Colborne, left wing Jordan Lavallee-Smotherman and right wing Kirk MacDonald scored for Providence. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones drew his third loss of the season, turning aside 28-of-31 shots on goal. Dalton (2-2-0) collected his second victory of the season, halting all 34 shots on net. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Providence was also 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

At Portland (1/8): Left wing Dennis McCauley scored the game-winning goal at 17:38 of the third period as the Portland Pirates recorded a 4-3 victory over the Manchester Monarchs Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Left wing Bud Holloway, center Justin Azevedo and left wing Dwight King tallied goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Maxime Legault and McCauley scored two goals apiece for the Pirates. Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (10-11-1) dropped his 11th decision of the season, turning aside 39-of-43 shots on goal. Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth (12-10-1) collected his 12th victory of the season, halting 32-of-35 shots on net. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

At Bridgeport (1/9): Only 17 seconds after the officials waived off a goal, defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov scored at the 32-second mark of overtime to give the Manchester Monarchs a 4-3 overtime win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in their rescheduled game at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday night. Voynov ‚¬â„¢s game-winning tally was preceded by a second period goal, and both left wing Bud Holloway and left wing Richard Clune also added regulation tallies for the Monarchs. Left wing Brandon Svendsen, left wing Justin DiBenedetto and right wing Olivier Labelle posted goals for the Sound Tigers. Monarchs goaltneder Martin Jones (14-3-0) picked up his 14th win and his second overtime win of the season with 28 saves on 31 shots. Bridgeport netminder Mikko Koskinen (5-13-0) stopped 24-of-28 shots in his 13th loss of the season. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (25-14-1-1, 52 points) lead the Atlantic Division with 52 points. The Portland Pirates (21-11-4-1, 47 points) and the Connecticut Whale (20-14-2-5, 47 points) are tied for second place in the division, trailing Manchester by five points. The Worcester Sharks (18-13-2-5) sit in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 43 points, while the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (18-17-3-2, 41 points) trail Worcester by two points wiht 41, placing them fifth in the seven team division. The Springfield Falcons (18-16-1-3, 40 points) and the Providence Bruins (15-18-3-1, 34 points) round out the Atlantic Division in sixth and seventh place.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s power play is ranked 14th in the AHL as they have scored 33 goals on 189 opportunities for an 17.5% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked eighth in the league as they have given up 28 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 184 times this season and have an 84.8% penalty kill rating.

With a two-goal effort against Bridgeport on Sunday, defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (8-21=29) leads the Monarchs in points with 29. His performance marked the first time in his career he has recorded a multi-goal game.

Voynov is ranked second overall in points among the league ‚¬â„¢s defenseman, trailing San Antonio blueliner Garrett Stafford (9-21=30) by one point.

Left wing Bud Holloway (13-14=27) and center Andrei Loktionov (6-21=27) are tied for second place on the Monarchs with 27 points each.

Holloway ‚¬â„¢s 13 goals lead the Monarchs in that category.

With a goal against Portland on Saturday, five of Holloway ‚¬â„¢s 13 goals on the season have come against the Pirates.

Loktionov is tied with Voynov for the team lead in assists with 21 helpers on the season.

Center Oscar Moller (9-16=25) holds sole possession of fourth place on the Monarchs with 25 points.

Moller tied a franchise record when he recorded five points (1-4=5) in the Monarchs 7-3 win over the Bruins on December 31. He is only the second player in team history to record five points in a game. The other is center Jared Aulin who picked up five assists against Saint John in the Monarchs 7-4 win on December 21, 2002.

Moller leads the Monarchs in the plus/minus category with a plus-14.

Moller is also in the midst of a 10-game point streak on home ice, recording a total of 19 points (8-11=19), eight goals and 11 assists, starting on November 14th.

Center Corey Elkins (9-14=23) is fifth on the Monarchs in points with 23.

Center Justin Azevedo (11-11=22) and left wing Dwight King (9-13=22) are ranked fifth on the Monarchs with 22 points apiece.

Azevedo is also tied for third place in the AHL in game-winning goals with four.

King has four points (1-3=4) in his last four games and seven points in his last seven games (2-5=7).

Right wing Brandon Kozun (9-10=19) is tied with left wing David Meckler (12-7=19) for eighth place on the Monarchs with 19 points.

Kozun is also tied with Azevedo for third place in the AHL with four game-winning goals this season.

Kozun is tied for 19th in the AHL among rookies with 19 points.

Meckler ‚¬â„¢s 12 goals scored place him second on the Monarchs in that category.

Left wing Richard Clune ‚¬â„¢s 140 penalty minutes place him fifth overall in the league in the same category. Right wing Justin Johnson is ranked 12th in the AHL with 108 penalty minutes.

In his last eight games, Clune has collected seven points (4-3=7) to bring his season total to 12 points (5-7=12).

Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 10-11-1 with a 3.24 goals-against-average and a 0.893 save percentage in 23 games this season.

Netminder Martin Jones has played in 20 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 14-3-0 with a 1.75 goals-against-average and a .943 save percentage.

Jones ‚¬â„¢ 1.75 goals-against-average leads the AHL in that category and his 0.943 save percentage is ranked second in the league.

Jones has won nine of his last 11 starts in net for the Monarchs, including a six game winning streak that started December 18 against Portland and ended January 2 against Connecticut.

12/11/10: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman Jordan Hill to a professional tryout agreement.

12/10/10: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled center Oscar Moller from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).

12/8/10: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) released right wing Zach Harnden from his AHL contract.
