Vogt Homers Twice in 3rd-Straight Win

MONTGOMERY, AL - Stephen Vogt homered twice and drove in five in the game's first two innings to spark the Biscuits (27-33) to their third-straight win, clinching the series over the Mississippi Braves (23-37) 10-5 Wednesday at Riverwalk.

Vogt's first blast made it 2-0 in the first. would follow with a two-out single to make it 3-0. Then, for the second night in-a-row, the Biscuits plated five in the second. Cole Figueroa knocked in a run before Vogt connected on a three-run homer to extend the advantage to 7-0. The scoring in the inning finished on a Braves error.

Mississippi scored three in the third against Shane Dyer (4-1) and two in the eighth against Matt Bush, but a two-run fourth from the Biscuits provided plenty of breathing room.

Vogt was far from the only offensive star. Figueroa was 4-5, while Mayora went 3-4 and finished a homer short of the cycle. Wrigley also delivered three hits. The top four in the Biscuits order was a combined 11-18.

Dyer hurled six full innings to get the victory. M-Braves starter Paul Clemens (4-3) became the second starter in as many nights ranked second in the league in ERA to get shelled by the Biscuits, allowing ten runs (seven earned) on eleven hits and a walk. Three Braves relievers combined to throw four shutout frames.

It was the third time this season Vogt had cranked two homers in a game.

RHP Nick Barnese will toss for the Biscuits as they open a five-game set with LHP Darin Downs and the Jacksonville Suns Thursday night at 7:05.
