Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS-The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced its South Division roster on Wednesday, June 8, selecting five Mississippi Braves to the 2011 Southern League All-Star Game.
While four members of the M-Braves starting rotation were named to the team, shortstop Tyler Pastornicky was the only position player chosen. Pastornicky, who's currently having a career-best season, has posted a .303 batting average in 56 games with the M-Braves this season. His team-leading 13 stolen bases rank fourth in the Southern League.
Right-handed pitchers Paul Clemens, Randall Delgado, J.J. Hoover, and lefty Brett Oberholtzer were all named to the 2011 South Division pitching staff. All four have been prominent members of the M-Braves starting rotation this season and have consistently ranked among the Southern League pitching leaders.
As of June 8, Clemens, Hoover, and Delgado rank among the top 10 in pitching. Clemens (4-2, 2.59) leads the group with the second-best ERA in the league while Hoover (2-5, 3.07) and Delgado (4-3, 3.51) rank seventh and 10th, respectively.
Clemens, who went 3-1 with a 1.85 ERA in five starts during the month of May, has 58 strikeouts on the season-fourth-most in the Southern League. He's also limited opponents to the league's fourth-lowest opponent's batting average at .215. Oberholtzer's 72 innings pitched is second-most among all Southern League pitchers.
