MOBILE, Ala. - On Wednesday, six BayBears were named to the South Division roster for the 2011 Southern League All-Star Game, which will be played at Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn. on Tuesday, June 21.

Among the BayBears selected were infielders Paul Goldschmidt and Taylor Harbin along with outfielders A.J. Pollock and Ollie Linton while right-handed pitchers Wes Roemer and Bryan Shaw were the only BayBear pitchers named to the squad.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has dominated the first half in his first season with the BayBears. Goldschmidt leads the Southern League in home runs (19), RBI (53), on-base percentage (.458), runs scored (51), and walks (46). He picked up right where he left off a season ago as he was named the California League MVP while smashing 35 home runs with the Visalia Rawhide. The Diamondbacks selected Goldschmidt in the eighth round of the 2009 draft out of Texas State University.

In his second season with the BayBears, Taylor Harbin has put up big numbers. The South Carolina native is hitting .321 with four home runs and 26 RBI. He has ripped double after double since joining the Diamondbacks organization as he has cracked 113 two-baggers since 2007. Harbin was selected by the Diamondbacks in the 2007 draft out of Clemson University. He spent all of last season with the BayBears as he played in 118 games and smacked 27 doubles.

After missing all of last season due to injury, A.J. Pollock has taken the Southern League by storm. In his first season with the BayBears, the center fielder has a .304 average to go along with four home runs and 36 RBI. He leads the BayBears with 20 doubles and 11 stolen bases. His 76 hits through 59 games is near the top of the Southern League. Pollock attended Notre Dame University and was a first round draft pick by the Diamondbacks in 2009.

After an All-Star season last year, Ollie Linton has put together another All-Star performance. Linton is batting .304 with three home runs and 16 RBI. He has already matched his home run total from last season and leads the team with three triples. Nothing has slowed down Linton as he showed when he made a spectacular headfirst diving catch into the wall against the Braves back in April. He missed 12 days but bounced back strongly and has batted over .300 ever since. Linton was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 13th round of the 2008 draft out of the University of California-Irvine.

Wes Roemer is the only active BayBears pitcher to be named to the All-Star team. In his third stint with the BayBears, Roemer has been an anchor in the starting rotation. He has a 4-2 record with a 3.07 ERA in 12 starts this season for the BayBears. Roemer leads the team in innings pitched with 76.1 and opponents are just batting .228 against the right-hander. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Carolina Mudcats on May 16and was named the Southern League pitcher of the week. The California native was a sandwich selection by the Diamondbacks in 2007 out of Cal-State Fullerton.

Bryan Shaw paced the BayBears with seven saves and a miniscule ERA before his promotion to Triple-A Reno. Shaw was in his second season with the BayBears and converted to the closer's role this year after splitting time last season between the rotation and bullpen. Shaw was a closer in college at Long Beach State, where his 23 saves were the second-best in school history.
