Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts combined solid pitching with an opportunistic approach on offense to come away with a 5-3 win over the Carolina Mudcats in Wednesday afternoon action at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts plated two runs in the first frame without collecting a single hit. Mudcats starting pitcher Tim Gustafson (1-5) walked three straight batters before third baseman Mike Costanzo committed a fielding error to allow Elian Herrera and Corey Smith to score.
Costanzo atoned for his error by blasting a two-run in the third inning to knot-up the score, 2-2.
Chattanooga took back the lead in the bottom portion of the third. Elian Herrera led off with a single and after two outs were recorded, Brian Cavazos-Galvez singled to right field. The speedy Herrera aggressively made his way to third on the hit, which resulted in an errant throw to third by right fielder Felix Perez. After the dust settled, both runners advanced an additional base, and the Lookouts held a 3-2 lead. Jose Castro nailed an RBI single in the top of the fourth to, once again, tie up the score, 3-3.
Alfredo Silverio blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to give the Lookouts the lead. Elian followed with a walk, stole second, and scored on a throwing error by shortstop Jake Kahaulelio on a ball hit by Cavazos-Galvez.
The Lookouts bullpen was able to shut down the Mudcats for the remainder of the game. Steven Ames pitched the ninth to earn his second save of the season for the Lookouts.
Michael Antonini improved to 4-7 on the season for the Lookouts. In six innings, he yielded three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out five.
The Chattanooga Lookouts hit the road to play the Mississippi Braves and Tennessee Smokies before the All-Star break. The Lookouts will return home on June 23rd to play a five-game homestand against the Jacksonville Suns. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
