Mississippi Braves News Release
Montgomery, AL - For the third straight night, the Montgomery Biscuits piled on early runs, and once again they held on to defeat the Mississippi Braves 10-5 and take the series at Riverwalk Stadium.
Paul Clemens allowed 10 runs - just seven earned - on eleven hits. The Biscuits (27-33) chased him after just 3.2 innings. The loss was his third of the season in seven decisions.
Half of Montgomery's runs came on Steven Vogt home runs - a two-run shot in the first, and a three-run shot in the second.
The Braves (23-37) trailed 8-0 after two frames, but managed to come back with three runs in the top of the third behind three straight hits. Mycal Jones and Tyler Pastornicky each singled, and a Willie Cabrera double brought in the first run. Shane Dyer then balked to bring home another, and a Linares ground out would score Cabrera to pull the Braves to within 8-3.
Two more unearned Biscuits runs crossed in the fourth to extend the lead. Then the combination of Yeliar Castro, Luis Avilan, and Benino Pruneda pitched scoreless baseball over the final 4.1 IP.
Cory Harrilchak led off the eighth inning with his third home run of the year over the right field wall, then an RBI ground out by Mycal Jones with one out brought in Jesus Sucre to bring the fifth and final run across for Mississippi.
Shane Dyer (4-1) earned the win for Montgomery, allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
The Braves head back home for a five game set against the Chattanooga Lookouts at Trustmark Park beginning Thursday at 7:05 PM CDT. Game one features right-hander Arodys Vizcaino (1-1, 5.54) for the Braves against Lookouts righty Chris Withrow (1-5, 5.29).
Thursday night is Bobby Cox Night at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves will honor the legendary Atlanta Braves manager with a pre-game ceremony on the field. Also, the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a free limited edition Bobby Cox figurine.
