Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
?BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Lake Monsters completed their first-ever three-game sweep of the Brooklyn Cyclones with a come-from-behind 6-2 victory on Saturday night in New York-Penn League action at historic Centennial Field and have now won four straight games for the first time in almost three years.
After losing the first two games of the homestand, the Lake Monsters have now won four straight games for the first time since August 30-September 2, 2012 and also picked up their first three-game sweep of an opponent at Centennial Field since sweeping Tri-City during that four-game win streak in 2012. Vermont had entered this three-game series with a 23-53 record all-time against Brooklyn, including just 10-26 at Centennial.
For the second straight night the Lake Monsters fell behind the Cyclones 2-0, but Vermont took the lead with single runs in the the third, fifth and sixth innings. Richie Martin beat out a two-out infield single to score Ryan Howell in the third, while Jesus Lopez just beat out a potential bases loaded double play in the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2.
Steven Pallares gave Vermont the 3-2 lead in the sixth with a two-out RBI single to score Brett Siddall, who had singled and stole second base. The Lake Monsters added three unearned insurance runs in the seventh on a Chris Iriart RBI groundout and a Seong-min Kim two-run single to center.
Starter Angel Duno was solid in his first appearance for the Lake Monsters, allowing two runs on three hits (all in the second) over five innings. After allowing a two-out, two-run double to Oswald Caraballo in the second inning, Duno retired the final 10 batters he faced. Reliever Derek Beasley (3-1) scattered three hits with one walk and two strikeouts over three scoreless innings to earn the win.
Howell was 2-for-4 with two runs and Siddall 2-for-4 with a run scored for Vermont (21-26), while David Thompson had two of the Cyclones six hits. Keven Canelon allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts over six innings to take the loss for Brooklyn (23-24).
