Three Cyclones Named to NYPL All-Star Team
August 8, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Three of Brooklyn's finest have been selected to play in the 11th Annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game to be played at Ripken Stadium on Tuesday, August 18th. Selected to the squad were Cyclones right-hander Gaby Almonte, closer Alex Palsha, and 2B Vinny Siena who will all play for the Southern All-Stars.
A 14th round pick of the 2015 MLB Draft out of UConn, Siena leads the Cyclones with a .301 batting average. During the first month of his professional career in June, he boasted a .405 batting average and hasn't gone more than two games without registering a hit this season. The second baseman has had 12 multi-hit games, scored 23 runs, and is hitting .389 with runners in scoring position. Siena has notched at least one hit in 33 of 43 games while maintaining a .367 on-base percentage.
Another Brooklyn standout, Almonte leads the Cyclones with five wins so far this season (5-3). The right-hander boasts a 3.73 ERA with 33 strikeouts and hasn't allowed more than two runs in six of nine games started this season.
Palsha completes the Cyclones' All-Star triad as a NYPL leader with 10 saves so far this summer. Through a total of 16.2 innings of work, the right-hander has struck out 20 batters, walked only four, and hasn't surrendered a single run. Batters currently manage to hit just .071 with runners in scoring position while right-handers are hitting .069 with Palsha on the mound.
The three All-Stars are tied for the fewest in franchise history, equalling 2005 and 2008's squad. The Aberdeen IronBirds will host the highly anticipated contest, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 pm on August 18th.
