Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Game Highlights: The Williamsport Crosscutters scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning but their rally would fall short 8-7 against the Auburn Doubledays on Saturday night at Falcon Park. The Cutters finish their six game road trip with a 3-3 record. The Cutters remain in first place in the Pinckney Division and also hold onto the best record in the New York Penn League at 30-18.
The Crosscutters offense rallied after falling behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Williamsport picked up their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a RBI single from Dylan Bosheers to make it a 4-1 game.
In the top of the sixth inning Venn Biter would drive in two runs with a triple to cut the deficit to 5-3. With Biter on third, Jan Hernandez hit his seventh home run of the season to tie the game 5-5.
Williamsport would have a chance to take their first lead of the game in the top of seventh inning. Bosheers kicked things off with a single and would move over to second base on a sacrifice bunt by William Cuicas. The Cutters would strand Bosheers in scoring position with back to back strikeouts to end the inning. Skylar Hunter entered the game for the Cutters in the bottom of the seventh inning looking to keep the game tied.
The Doubledays would score three runs against Hunter on three consecutive hits to regain an 8-5 lead. Denton Keys would work a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning striking out the side on 12 pitches. Williamsport wouldn't go down without a punch in the top of the ninth inning as they would rally against Mariano Rivera III.
Cuicas delivered a RBI single that allowed Gregori Rivero to score from second base. With the bases loaded, Carlos Duran delivered a sacrifice fly to make it an 8-7 game. Jesus Posso would ground into a fielder's choice to end the game with the potential tying run at third base.
