Spinners to be Well Represented at NYPL All-Star Game

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced five Spinners players and the full complement of coaches and training staff will be headed to Aberdeen to represent the North Team at the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game.

On the field the Spinners will be represented by first baseman Josh Ockimey, second baseman Chad De La Guerra, third baseman Victor Acosta, outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and relief pitcher Edwar Garcia. Leading the team will be Spinners' skipper Joe Oliver and his full coaching staff and training staff: Iggy Suarez, Luke Murton, Lance Carter, Head Athletic Trainer Nick Kuchwara, Strength & Conditioning Coach James Porco and Assistant Athletic Trainer Cody Maraen.

"We are very excited to have such a strong representation at the All-Star festivities," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Joe and his staff have done a fantastic job this year and each and every one of the players selected is deserving, not just for their on field performances but their ability to impact our community positively as well."

Ockimey, 19, is in his first full professional season after being selected by the Red Sox in the 5th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft and is batting .268 with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs and a team-leading 21 RBI.

De La Guerra, 22, is a 17th round selection in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Grand Canyon University is batting .280 with a team-leading nine doubles, one triple, two home runs and 18 RBI.

Acosta, 19, has played both third base and left field this season is batting a team leading .286 on the season with eight doubles, a triple, one home run and 15 RBI.

Basabe, 18, ranks amongst the league leaders in most statistical categories ranking second in home runs (6), fourth in runs scored (27) and stolen bases (13), third in total bases (75) while batting .263 with seven doubles, three triples and 19 RBI. He became the first player in franchise history to hit home runs from both sides of the plate, accomplishing the feat twice in a span of 10 days.

Garcia, 21, has been involved in nearly every game he has appeared in recording a 3-1 record with five saves in six opportunities, tying him for the team lead. In 21.2 innings, Garcia has struck out 25 while allowing four runs (three earned), holding opponents to a .225 batting average.

In addition, Oliver and his coaching staff earned the honor of leading the squad. They will travel with the All-Stars to Aberdeen, home of the IronBirds, for the festivities beginning Monday, August 17 with the game set for Tuesday night, August 18.
