Tyler Henson Named to IL All-Star Team
July 2, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
INF/OF Tyler Henson was chosen as the lone IronPigs representative for the 28th annual Triple-A All-Star Game to be played on July 15 at Warner Park in Omaha, Neb., the International League announced on Wednesday. The 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game will be nationally televised on the MLB Network, beginning at 8 p.m. (EST).
Henson, 27, has been on a recent binge at the plate, going 8-for-15 during the club's three-game sweep of the first-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders from June 29-July 1. He's also had an uncanny ability to deliver big hits, batting a remarkable 15-for-31 (.484) with two outs and runners in scoring position in 2015. He's swiped 11 bases since June 3, the second highest total in the International League over that span (Tyler Saladino, 15).
On the whole this year, Henson's hit .259 with a homer and 31 RBIs, which ranks 2nd on the club. He also leads the IronPigs in steals (17) and batting average with runners in scoring position (.356) and is among the team leaders in triples (T-1st, 2) and doubles (2nd, 11).
This is Henson's third career all-star nod following recognition in the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game with Bowie and the 2007 New York-Penn League classic with Aberdeen.
The remainder of the International League All-Star roster is attached.
Following last year's 7-3 victory in the Triple-A All-Star Game, the IL owns a 10-7 advantage in the seventeen years since the event changed to the current IL vs. PCL format. The winning League this season will once again earn the right to have its champion play as the "home team" at the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game which will take place Tuesday, September 22 in El Paso, Texas.
Great seats are still available for all upcoming IronPigs home games at Coca-Cola Park and can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park (Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), by calling (610) 841-PIGS (7447) or online at ironpigsbaseball.com/tickets.
