RailRiders Snap Skid, Crush Pawtucket

Pawtucket, R.I. - In desperate need of a win, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) left no doubt with a commanding 14-2 defeat of the host Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) at McCoy Stadium on Thursday night. SWB (44-37) snapped a season-worst six-game losing streak with its best run-scoring output of the season while Pawtucket (38-44) fell to a season-worst six games under .500. The RailRiders have won 13 of 16 against Pawtucket going back to last season.

Down 2-1 after three, the RailRiders plated 13 unanswered runs in the middle innings. Rob Segedin bashed a two-run homer in a five-run fourth, Rob Refsnyder's sac fly got Aaron Judge home for a run in the fifth and Ben Gamel's grand slam highlighted a seven-run sixth.

SWB starter Luis Severino (4-0) allowed two runs in five innings for his fourth win in five starts. Pawtucket's Zeke Spruill (4-4) gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings for the loss.

The RailRiders' road trip concludes at 6:15 p.m. on Friday night at McCoy Stadium. SWB right-hander Kyle Davies (5-6, 4.68) will face fellow right-hander Joe Kelly (0-0, 1.29).

The RailRiders return to PNC Field for a six-day, seven-game homestand starting on the Fourth of July against the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) at 7:05 p.m. Fans 18 and over will receive a voucher for a scratch-off ticket courtesy of the PA Lottery which will also present a post-game fireworks extravaganza. On Sunday, July 5 a day-night doubleheader will have separate nine-inning games at 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans in attendance for the Sunday nightcap will receive a Rob Refsnyder bobblehead, presented by Keystone Sanitary Landfill. OFF THE RAILS:

Austin Romine extended the IL's longest hitting streak of the season to 18 games with a 2-for-5 night. He doubled and scored. He has hit .373 (28-for-75) during his run.

Rob Refsnyder went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Since he moved to the clean-up position, he is 7-for-16 (.438) with six walks, four RBIs and six runs scored.
