Rochester Red Wings News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The International League announced today that relief pitcher A.J. Achter, second baseman James Beresford, starting pitcher Taylor Rogers and hitting coach Tim Doherty will represent the Rochester Red Wings at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Omaha from July 13-15.

This is only the second time since the game's inception in 1988 that the Red Wings will have four representatives. In 2007, reliever Bobby Korecky, catcher Jose Morales, infielder Matt Tolbert and coach Stan Cliburn were selected to the game in Albuquerque.

Achter becomes Rochester's first back-to-back All-Star since the game began. He is the third Red Wing selected multiple times joining Rick Krivda (1997, '94), Mark Smith (1995, '93) and Butch Davis (1992, '89). A.J. is tied for the leauge lead with 32 appearances and has the lowest batting average against (.125), fewest baserunners per 9.0 IP ratio (5.80) and third lowest walks per 9.0 IP ratio (1.77) among qualified relievers this season. He is 13-for-13 in save opportunities since becoming the closer in early May and overall is 3-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 35.2 innings with seven walks and 35 strikeouts.

Beresford has ranked among the league leaders in batting average since late April and currently ranks third with a .317 mark thanks in part to his team-high 25 multi-hit games. James has 12 doubles and a triple among 80 hits this season along with 27 RBI and 31 runs scored.

Rogers is 7-4 with a 2.96 ERA and leads the league with 103.1 innings, 10 more than the next closest player. He has made 16 appearances (15 starts) and nine of those games are more than 6.0 innings with two earned runs allowed or less. Taylor has owned left-handers, holding them to just 20 hits in 115 at-bats (.174 average) with just two walks. He has been even better at home, posting a 2.55 ERA in nine games at Frontier Field.

Doherty is in his third season as hitting coach for Rochester and has helped lead the Red Wings to the third-highest team batting average in the league this season. He resides in Lee's Summit, MO, roughly three hours from Omaha.

The IL will take on the Pacific Coast League in Omaha on Wednesday, July 15 with the home run derby taking place on Monday of that week.
