Bisons Clip Chiefs in Series-Opener
July 2, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
Buffalo, NY (July 2, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the opening game of a two-game series, 3-2, Thursday night at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo. Caleb Gindl's three-run homer in the second inning was enough to lift the Bisons to a victory.
Buffalo's (38-42) three-run second was all it would need. Luke Scott singled with one out off Paolo Espino, followed by a walk to Brad Glenn. Espino then surrendered a three-run home run to Gindl to give the Bisons a 3-0 lead.
Syracuse (28-53) got its two runs in the third. Darin Mastroianni and Trea Turner each singled to start the inning against Jeff Francis. Newly named International-League All-Star Jason Martinson then doubled in both runners to cut the lead to 3-2.
That would be it for the scoring, as Espino and Francis shut down the bats. Each pitcher allowed six hits, with Espino striking out six Bisons and Francis posting 10 strikeouts of his own.
Syracuse and Buffalo plays the finale of this two-game series Friday. Taylor Hill is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Felix Doubront for the Bisons. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
