Motter, Mariñez Named International League All-Stars
July 2, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Two Durham Bulls have been named to the International League All-Star team, the league announced today, as utility man Taylor Motter and right-handed reliever Jhan Mariñez will represent the Bulls at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb. on July 15th.
Motter, who has made at least five starts at six different positions this season, ranks 7th in the IL in average (.307), 1st in doubles (26), 2nd in extra-base hits (32), T-2nd in hits (87), 4th in slugging percentage (.459), T-4th in runs scored (41), 5th in stolen bases (21) and 5th in total bases (130). In his first season of Triple-A Baseball, Motter began the season batting just .151 through his first 14 games of the year. Since then though, the 25-year-old has batted an IL-best .341 over his last 58 games, tallying a league-high 79 hits in that span. A 2014 Southern League Midseason All-Star with Double-A Montgomery, the product of Coastal Carolina University has compiled four different hitting streaks of at least eight games this season, including a career-best 16-game hitting streak from June 3rd to June 20th. Drafted by Tampa Bay in the 17th round in 2011, Motter has now been selected to his league's Midseason or Postseason All-Star team for the third time in his career.
In his first season in the Tampa Bay system, Mariñez is 4-1 with a 2.04 ERA with one save over 22 appearances for Durham. After beginning the 2015 campaign with Double-A Montgomery, the native of the Dominican Republic was promoted to the Bulls on April 26th, and has posted 17 scoreless outings in that span. The 26-year-old has struck out multiple batters in 13 of his appearances with Durham, while lasting more than 1.0 inning on 15 occasions. The right-hander ranks T-2nd in the IL with eight holds, and among league relievers has posted the 3rd-best K/9 ratio (10.44) and the 5th-best opponent's batting average (.171). He was named a 2010 Florida State League Midseason All-Star with Advanced-A Jupiter, before earning Futures Game honors in 2011 as a member of the Double-A Jacksonville Suns.
The Durham Bulls open a three-game series on Saturday, July 4th at 6:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides. Mini Plans, group and single game tickets are available now. For more information, visit durhambulls.com, the DBAP ticket office or call 919.956.BULL.
