Two Rainiers Earn 2016 Triple-A All-Star Nods
June 30, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Coast League today announced that Tacoma Rainiers outfielder Stefen Romero and right-handed pitcher Blake Parker have been elected to represent the PCL in the Sonic Automotive 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game.
Romero, 27, was elected to start in the outfield after hitting .336 with 38 runs, nine home runs, and 43 RBI through his first 56 games of the season. His .336 batting average currently ranks sixth in the league, while his .570 slugging percentage checks in at fifth best in the circuit.
The former Oregon State Beaver has hit safely in 42-of-56 games this season, while recording 21 multi-hit performances. Romero was selected by Seattle in the 12th round of the 2010 draft and is currently enjoying his fourth season with the Rainiers.
Parker, 31, has served as the Rainiers primary closer all season, converting 14-of-14 save opportunities while posting a 2.15 ERA. His 14 saves are tied for second-most in the PCL this year, and are the most by a Tacoma pitcher in a single season since Logan Bawcom logged 21 in 2013.
The Fayetteville, Ark. native has recorded 27 total relief appearances this season after being limited to just three games for Triple-A Iowa in 2015 due to surgery on his right shoulder. He has recorded 41 strikeouts across 29.1 innings of work this year and limited opposing batters to a .170 batting average. Parker was signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 18, 2015 and was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the 2006 draft.
This marks the fifth consecutive season that multiple Rainiers players have been called on to represent the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Infielders Jesus Montero and Ketel Marte, along with right-handed pitcher Forrest Snow, earned the honors in 2015.
The contest will be held at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be televised on MLB Network.
All tickets, group outings, and suite packages for the team's 2016 campaign are available for purchase in person at the Cheney Stadium Box Office or online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
