Iowa Cubs News Release

ROUND ROCK, TX - The Round Rock Express (42-38) opened the series against the Iowa Cubs (38-41) with two walk-off victories in a doubleheader, Thursday at Dell Diamond. Justin Ruggiano knocked a two-run blast in the seventh inning of game one to sink the I-Cubs, 4-2. Hanser Alberto came through in game two with a RBI single in the eighth to help the Express to a 5-4 win.

In his second start with Iowa, Adam Warren threw five innings in game one, allowing two runs on three hits while walking none and whiffing three. Iowa outhit Round Rock 7-4 and only struck out once as a team, but went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Iowa scored a first inning run with the help of a leadoff double from John Andreoli. Warren allowed just one hit through 3.2 innings, but Joey Gallo ripped a double in the fourth and Ruggiano broke the shutout with a two-run shot to put Round Rock ahead.

Iowa fought back as Jeimer Candelario hit a solo home run in the sixth to knot the score at 2-2 heading into the final frame. The same duo came through for the Express for the second time. Gallo drew a leadoff walk from Gerardo Concepcion and two pitches later, Ruggiano punched his second homer of the game to give the Express their first walk-off victory of the night.

In game two, Iowa managed another first-inning run as Juan Perez drilled a solo homer to left field. Iowa starter Drew Rucinski pitched 2.2 one-hit innings, but a three-run home run from Kyle Kubitza in the third put Round Rock ahead, 3-1.

Perez pushed Iowa closer in the fourth with his second solo blast of the game. Mark Zagunis added to the effort with a leadoff triple in the sixth that led to the tying and go-ahead runs in the inning. Iowa was one out away from the win, but Patrick Cantwell kept the game alive with a single and later scored on a base knock from Delino DeShields to force extras.

In the eighth, the Express took advantage of a two-out walk issued to Drew Robinson. Robinson would ultimately be the winning run, scoring on an Alberto single to complete the twinbill sweep for Round Rock.

Iowa and Round Rock meet again at 7:05 p.m. CT tomorrow at Dell Diamond with lefty Rob Zastryzny toeing the rubber for the I-Cubs. Follow the action on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com.
