Shipley, Jensen and Gosewisch Named to PCL All-Star Team
June 30, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Reno Aces will have multiple representatives on the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team for an eighth consecutive season, the PCL announced today. Right-hander Braden Shipley (@shipley25), first baseman/outfielder Kyle Jensen (@TheKJensen42) and catcher Tuffy Gosewisch (@santiagosewisch) were named to the squad, with Jensen listed as one of three starters in the outfield.
Jensen's naming as a PCL starter extends Reno's run as having at least one All-Star starter since the club's first season in 2009.
The midseason honor is the fourth of the 28-year-old's career and first as a member of the PCL. Jensen is batting .304 (84-for-276) with 15 home runs, two triples, 24 doubles, 71 RBI and 42 runs scored through 74 games this season. He ranks among PCL leaders in RBI (1st), doubles (3rd), homers (T-3rd), slugging percentage (.569 - 6th) and hits (T-9th).
Honored by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the Reno Aces Player of the Month for May, Jensen has carried his success into June where he has totaled 10 homers and 39 RBI in the month alone. The 10 long balls in a single month are currently tied for second with Wily Mo Peña in franchise history, while the 39 RBI easily eclipsed Mike Jacobs' previous record of 34 set in May 2014.
Shipley, 24, becomes just the fifth pitcher in franchise history to make the PCL All-Star Team. Selected by Arizona in the first round (15th overall) of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Nevada-Reno, Shipley owns a 6-4 record and 3.81 ERA over 99 1/3 innings, spanning 16 starts for the Aces this season. He ranks among PCL leaders in starts (T-1st) and innings pitched (2nd).
The right-hander has thrown a team-high 10 quality starts, and he was honored as the PCL Pitcher of the Week from April 25-May 1 when he threw 13.0 scoreless innings in a pair of outings against Fresno and Albuquerque at Greater Nevada Field. The midseason award is the first of his professional career.
Gosewisch, 32, is hitting .337 (66-for-196) with seven home runs, one triple, 13 doubles and 23 RBI in 57 games. He ranks among PCL catcher leaders in OPS (.913 - 2nd), hits (4th), homers (T-4th) and doubles (T-5th), while his batting average (5th) and .393 on-base percentage (T-10th) place him among the league's best.
Named to the PCL All-Star Team for a second time in his career, the Aces catcher has thrown out a league-high 41.5% of would-be base stealers (17-of-41).
The 29th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be played Wednesday, July 13, at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, North Carolina at 4:05 p.m. PT. The PCL All-Stars, comprised of 30 players from the 16 PCL teams, will compete against the International League All-Stars.
The current Triple-A All-Star format, matching up the PCL against the IL, began in 1998. The IL has won three straight and eight of the last 10 meetings to take an 11-7 lead in the all-time series.
The All-Star Game will be televised live on MLB Network. It will also be available to MiLB.TV subscribers live online at MiLB.com and on most Apple devices via the MiLB First Pitch app. It also will be available for live streaming via MLB.com At Bat and MLBNetwork.com.
Ticket packages are on-sale now at www.renoaces.com or by calling (775) 334-4700. Follow the club all season long on Twitter (@Aces) or like the team on Facebook.
