Twins Swing Trade with Marlins for Infielder Alex De Goti, Assign him to Saints

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - It took only 13 days into the 2023 season for the Saints to add their first new player, as the Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Alex De Goti from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations on Thursday, assigning him to Triple-A St. Paul.

De Goti, a Miami, FL native, had started the season with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville where he had played in four games, collecting two hits in 15 at-bats, including one home run, and four runs driven in. De Goti signed with the Marlins on December 1, 2022 after seven years in the Houston Astros organization.

The 28-year-old made his Major League debut on April 16, 2021 with the Astros, going 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. He played in two games with Houston, finishing 2-6 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk before returning to the Astros' Alternate Training Site.

De Goti has spent parts of the last five seasons with the Astro's Triple-A affiliates (Fresno in 2017-2018, Round Rock in 2019, Sugar Land in 2021-2022). Last year he hit .253 in 135 games with nine homers and 69 RBI with the Space Cowboys. Over his career, the right-handed hitter holds a .256 career average in Triple-A over 403 games.

In 2019, De Goti was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star while playing for the Round Rock Express, hitting .277 in 127 games, hitting a career-high 15 home runs and career-high 70 RBI.

The lone All-Star selection of his career came in 2018 with the Corpus Christi Hooks, where he hit .282 in 98 games, earning him the promotion to Triple-A Fresno where he finished the season hitting .287 in 27 games with the Grizzlies.

De Goti was drafted in the 15th round in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Barry University, where he hit .404 with 14 home runs and 22 stolen bases as a senior after transferring from Long Beach State University.

The Saints' roster now consists of the league-maximum 28 players, with 15 pitchers and 13 position players, and three on the Injured List.
