Bats Collapse Late, Fall 13-6 to MudHens on Thursday Night

Toledo, OH -- Matt Reynolds, Alejo Lopez and Matt McLain combined for nine hits, seven for extra-bases, as the Louisville Bats (2-10) collapsed late, falling 13-6 to the Toledo Mud Hens (8-4) at Fifth Third Field on Thursday night.

The Bats would get on the board in a hurry. Michael Siani drew a leadoff walk to open the game, followed by a double into the right field corner by Lopez to get two men in scoring position with no outs. In the next at-bat McLain knocked a single up the middle to score two runs and give Louisville an early 2-0 lead.

Reynolds got the Bats offense going again in the second, launching his first home run of the season to center field to extend the lead to 3-0.

Three base hits in the Bats half of the fourth, highlighted by a Reynolds leadoff double and Lopez RBI triple, would further stretch the Louisville lead to 5-0.

Bats starter Brandon Williamson (0-1, 6.57) cruised through the first three innings, allowing just a single hit with four strikeouts. Williamson allowed four runs in the fourth thanks to two MudHens home runs but put up another zero in the fifth to turn in his longest start of the season.

Toledo tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to the MudHens third homer of the evening, to take its first lead of the game.

The Mud Hens broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs on three hits, most notably a three-run homer off the bat of Donny Sands to push the score to 11-6.

McLain would even the score in the following frame, lacing a ball off the top of the wall in left-center field before scampering around the bases for an inside the park home run, tying the game 6-6.

Toledo burst the game open, scoring five runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth before sitting the Bats down in order in the top of the ninth to secure the 13-6 win.

Reynolds finished the night 4-for-4 with a home run and three doubles while McLain turned a 3-for-5 effort with a home run and Lopez tallying a a double and triple.

The Bats and MudHens will continue their six-game series with game four tomorrow, Friday, April 14th with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. E.T. Reds rehabber Luke Weaver (0-0, 0.00) will make his second start with Louisville, facing off against former Bats and current Toledo hurler RHP Ashton Goudeau (0-0, 7.71).
