Tribe Five-Run First Seals Sweep against Bats

June 25, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Cole Tucker tied a career high with four hits and the Tribe lineup notched 15 total knocks - their most since a 15-hit showing on April 27 - to secure an 8-3 win over Louisville on Tuesday night and a sweep of the two-game set. Kevin Kramer and JB Shuck added three hits apiece in the triumph.

Tucker's day included three leadoff hits, including doubles in the first and second inning. Eight of the nine lineup spots reached base safely at least once.

The Indians (41-34) sent nine to the plate in their half of the first inning, seven whom reached base safely. Tucker caught the defense sleeping during his first at-bat and stretched a ground ball to center into a two-bagger to start the game. Darnell Sweeney and Kramer followed with singles and an error at third base on a sharp grounder by Will Craig made it 2-0. Trayvon Robinson worked a bases-loaded walk, Christian Kelley plated Craig on a sacrifice fly, and Shuck drove in the final run of the inning with a single to left.

Brian O'Grady led off the second inning looking for a rally, sending a shot 447 feet into the center field trees. Louisville knocked in another run in the fourth on an outfield misplay by Shuck, but Logan Hill threw a bullet to get Nick Longhi at second and Vera following with his fifth strikeout of the evening to limit the damage. The Tribe took the run back in their half on another three-hit string, this time with two outs, to hold the lead 6-2.

The Bats (28-49) scored next on Jake Brentz's first pitch of the game out of the bullpen as Narciso Crook deposited a solo home run over the left field wall on a line drive. The Indians retaliated with yet another three-hit string, bases-loaded walk and sac fly in the eighth to provide the final 8-3 margin.

Tribe starter Eduardo Vera (W, 4-5) went a season-high tying seven innings and allowed two runs for his fifth quality start of the year. He shut down the final 10 batters he faced. Dovydas Neverauskas clinched his first save since May 29 and sixth of the season by recording the final four outs.

Tejay Antone (L, 1-1) allowed 12 of the 15 hits for the Indians. Louisville surrendered four free bases on two walks, one hit batter and an error, all leading to runs.

Indy continues its homestand Wednesday night against first-place Columbus at 7:05 p.m. ET. Cam Vieaux (2-0, 4.15) will start for the Tribe opposite Asher Wojciechowski (8-2, 3.81).
